A walk to…remake? As teen tearjerker A Walk to Remember turns 20 years old, star Mandy Moore says she’d like to see Olivia Rodrigo’s take on the role of cancer-stricken sweetheart Jamie Sullivan, and that actually makes a ton of sense.
“I would love that,” Moore told People of the idea of a remake, adding that she could see “Olivia Rodrigo or something like that,” in the role and saying, “I would love to see it. It’s been long enough that, yeah, I feel like we’ve earned our place in cinematic history for a reboot at this point.” Hey, if they can make She’s All That again and again (and again), I don’t see why this one should be a problem.
For those who haven’t seen it (minor spoilers ahead), A Walk to Remember is about the unlikely high school romance between popular rebel Landon (Shane West) and the bookish minister’s daughter Jamie (Moore) and is based on a Nicholas Sparks novel. In one of the most crucial and iconic scenes, Jamie stars in the school’s play, revealing her glamorous, beautiful side and singing confidently to Landon.
Um…kind of sounds like a plot from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, doesn’t it? Which is why Rodrigo is the perfect pick. She’s got the wide-eyed, innocent thing going on, and the vocal chops to make this moment work. Maybe she’s ready to leave teenage parts behind, but if she wants to flex her dramatic acting muscles, this is just the kind of project we could see Rodrigo crushing. If not, someone get Rachel Zegler on the line, stat. Maybe Mandy Moore could play Jamie’s deceased mother in flashbacks. You know This Is Us fans are always ready to cry.
